GROUP FITNESS MANAGEMENT

Welcome to an overview of the most comprehensive Group Fitness Management (GFM) resource available. The online Group Fitness Management guide is available 24/7 to help maximise your Group Fitness operations by providing best practice recommendations, answers to every day challenges and numerous tools to manage your entire group fitness operation.

Topics covered are organised into the 8 Key Elements of the Les Mills Group Fitness Management System.

1. Create A Scorecard

Create a Scorecard is the starting point for building effective and consistent GF success, whether you are a part or full-time GF Manager.

The benchmarks explored in this section will show you how to use data so it becomes a powerful tool to facilitate a more rewarding future for you, your instructors, your members and your facility management.

Key Element 1 has one vital requirement from you as GF Manager: You must measure performance with passion and commitment every day.

We know that numbers are the less exciting side of the job for many GF Managers. The fear of not spotting a cost overrun or exceeding the monthly budget can dominate the mind and so create strong negative associations for numbers.

It’s time to change all that! Key Element 1 – Create a Scorecard offers you a step-by-step guide to making numbers your allies and thereby helping to build a future with more rewarding choices for everyone involved in GF. Go for it!

2. Maximise Your Timetable

Skilful timetabling is a balance of art and science. You can see why when you look at the decisions every GF Manager has to make to build an optimal timetable.

The content in this section will help you manage these sorts of challenges:

  • The variety of classes offered versus the need to build consistently high attendance levels;
  • Acceptable benchmarks to establish when a class is struggling and what action should be taken to maximize attendances;
  • The minimum number of each type of class that should be offered each week;
  • When to add more classes of an existing program;
  • When to add a new program.

Timetabling is an exciting opportunity to maximize attendance. We offer you our best practice recommendations to help you with this critical element of GF Management..

3. Recruit World Class Instructors and Keep Them

This section will explore:

  • The impact of a powerful instructor team on facility success;
  • What it takes to be a great instructor;
  • Sourcing talented instructors;
  • Hiring for excellence;
  • Rewarding instructors to build loyalty.

Instructors are as critical to success as powerful program development.

It doesn’t matter how good your programs are; if your instructors are mediocre and de-motivated, your class attendances will drop.

This section will take you through best practice in securing a powerful team of instructors who help GF attendances to grow consistently.

4. Organise Great Instructor Training

This section will explore:

  • The importance of instructor training;
  • The impact of the Group Fitness (GF) Manager’s approach to quality and excellence;

  • Tools to assist in continuous development of your instructors.

As stated in Key Element 3 – Recruit World Class Instructors and Keep Them, instructors are as critical to success as powerful program development.

This section will take you through best practice on training instructors so they can maximize fitness experiences in class and thereby help GF attendances to grow consistently..

5. Develop The Best Studio You Can Afford

Group Fitness (‘GF’) attendees come to class because they want an extraordinary fitness experience which meets their functional fitness objectives.

To deliver life-changing fitness experiences every time in your studios, you need:

  • Role model instructors
  • An inspiring environment

This section focuses on creating an inspiring studio environment which will enhance people’s experiences in each class they take.

We analyze this at two levels:

  • Functional requirements for studio design

  • Quickly calculate rewards based on the number of free passes handed in to reception each month.

  • Remember to include re-launch months - but set a higher target as promotions will bring more people to your club!

  • Give instructors rewards like clothing, sunbed time, flowers, paying for music etc for their excellent efforts.
