TEMPORARY LIVE-STREAM: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs) FOR CLUBS

To help support our Club Partners and Instructors during this challenging time, we have created a library of temporary workouts using royalty-free music, so Clubs can engage their qualified Instructors to live-stream the programs they’re licensed to deliver, to their members via the club’s social media channels. Instructors need to speak directly with their Club, to discuss how they plan to deliver this temporary group fitness timetable, and how they can get involved.

To find out more about this live-streaming solution please read the following important FAQs.

Which programs can my Club live-stream?
To preserve the quality of the programs delivered – even in these unusual circumstances – it is a condition of use that Clubs only stream the programs you are licensed to deliver, and those programs must only be taught by Instructors who are currently qualified to do so. Given the unprecedented situation we are in, different regions may be doing things differently; however, Les Mills Asia Pacific is committed to quality assurance, which means this stance is non-negotiable.

The following table indicates the program licensing requirements for clubs and the qualifications required by instructors, to deliver these temporary workouts.

I’m unable to pay my Les Mills licensing fees. Can I still live-stream these classes?
Our goal with these live-streaming classes and LES MILLS On Demand is that you can retain your members and licensing. Clubs do need to have an up-to-date license agreement to live-stream these classes. If your licenses have been suspended by Les Mills Asia Pacific because your Club is temporarily closed due to a Government directive, then you are still eligible to live-stream these workouts. If you have any questions or are unsure about your eligibility, please check with your local Business Partnership Manager.

Do I have to pay to use these workouts?
If this temporary solution is well received – and if this situation continues – we may be able to expand the library of live-stream workouts in the future. However, this can only occur if we too are able to generate the revenue required to do so. Therefore, if you monetise these live-streamed workouts, we request a discussion be held with your local Business Partnership Manager regarding the potential for a revenue-share arrangement.

How long can these workouts be used to live-stream?
We are providing these workouts to support Clubs and Instructors during this difficult period while clubs are closed due to Government directives. Once your Club is allowed to open again, these workouts can no longer be used.

Can I stream these videos of the temporary workouts as they are, without using one of our own Instructors?
No. This solution is designed for your members to see your Instructors, so they stay connected to your community. Your members should access LES MILLS On Demand if you want to provide them with access to pre-recorded Les Mills masterclass content.

Does my liability insurance cover live-streaming?
Every Club’s insurance may differ so it is your responsibility to ensure that the appropriate insurance is in place to cover live-streaming (in particular, in relation to any injury to participants).

Are these workouts the same as the usual Les Mills releases?
No. To bring you a new release Les Mills usually spends weeks licensing the best music and creating and refining the choreography to the music. These new workouts are great, but they have been put together quickly using royalty-free music in order to support our global Tribe during this difficult time. Live classes using our regular releases is the premium experience for members, and that’s what we aim to have everyone return to doing, once this difficult period is over.

Why can I stream these workouts and not our regular Les Mills releases?
These workouts can be streamed as they include royalty-free music that we have created exclusively for Les Mills. Please do not stream any other Les Mills workouts as this will breach our licensing arrangements with music artists and music publishers.

Can Instructors stream these on their personal social media channels?
No. Our goal is to empower Instructors to continue teaching with Clubs. By streaming via your Club’s social channels, your Club can develop a timetable across multiple instructors for all members. This will also ensure your members can easily find the classes available to them. Please refer to the ‘Handy Tips for Live Streaming’ doc for guidance.

Can Instructors record themselves teaching these classes?
We recommend live-streaming these workouts, as this serves to restore a sense of community and engagement among your members.

Should these temporary workouts replace the 100+ free online workouts or LES MILLS On Demand classes?
No. These temporary workouts will work really well in conjunction with the free online workouts and/or LES MILLS On Demand. Remember, if you become a LES MILLS On Demand Affiliate Partner (which costs nothing to set up), you can revenue-share in any LES MILLS On Demand subscriptions that your members sign up for. Talk to your local Business Partnership Manager for more info on this.

  1. Plan your timetable based on what your member demand is for workout types, and keep in mind the instructor resources you have to provide. If you don’t have the people to run the classes, you may have to reconsider the plan (e.g. if your club has strong demand for HIIT workouts but low demand for dance, consider running additional HIIT classes).
  2. Adjust for local conditions. Allow plenty of gaps between start and finish times. Allow for both the use of different releases on different days and also for members and staff to switch from one stream to the next.
  3. This one is BIG. The class durations are not consistent! BODYCOMBAT classes vary from 30-45minutes. Dance workouts range from 41 minutes down to only 14! Yoga Flow is very short!
