LMAP: Please tell us about yourself
Ricky: Ricky: I have been teaching BODYCOMBAT since 2014, which means I have been on this rewarding journey for 10 years now. My focus is solely on teaching this incredible program, which allows me to inspire others to embrace fitness and lead healthier lives.

LMAP: What inspired you to become a Les Mills Instructor?
Ricky: I am proud to say that my mentors, Lynda, Pippo, and Vivi, are my greatest sources of inspiration. They played a pivotal role in making me fall in love with BODYCOMBAT because their passion for fitness is contagious. Back when I was a member, the highlight of my day was attending their classes, as they were always filled with energy and motivation. I looked forward to each session because they had a unique ability to create an uplifting atmosphere that pushed me to challenge myself and strive for improvement. Their dedication and encouragement continue to inspire me today, as I pursue my own journey in teaching BODYCOMBAT.
LMAP: We understand you have asthma. How does this condition impact your approach to fitness and teaching BODYCOMBAT?
Ricky: I have asthma and cardiomyopathy, with symptoms that manifest as a weak heart. These conditions are hereditary, as both my late grandmother and mother experienced similar issues. Fortunately, the condition I am facing is not severe, which allows me to manage it effectively through a healthy lifestyle and regular exercise. My doctor mentioned that engaging in regular physical activity can help improve the function of a weak heart, which gives me hope and motivation. BODYCOMBAT, in particular, has significantly contributed to my journey toward better health, providing me with a fun and dynamic way to stay active, while also empowering me to take control of my wellbeing.
I manage my asthma through rest, rest, and more rest! And good nutrition. Additionally, a cool temperature in the environment where I teach is crucial. One of my biggest challenges arise when I have to teach in a hot class where the air conditioning doesn’t work, or if there are no fans or proper air circulation. In such conditions, I often find myself struggling to breathe and feeling nauseous, which makes it difficult to focus on delivering an effective session. That’s why I am truly grateful for those cool studios that provide a comfortable atmosphere, allowing me to give my best while ensuring the wellbeing of my participants!

LMAP: What do you love about being a Les Mills Instructor?
Ricky: Knowing that I have the ability to change people's lives for the better and contribute to their health and happiness is incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. There’s something truly special about being able to inspire others to adopt healthier lifestyles and witness their transformations first-hand. I always look forward to seeing those exhausted, yet happy, faces after the class as it reminds me of the positive impact I have made and the joy that comes from pursuing fitness together. Each smile is a testament to their hard work and dedication, and it fills me with immense gratitude and motivation to continue sharing my passion through teaching.
LMAP: What would you tell someone who is considering becoming a Les Mills Instructor, but does not feel ready?
Ricky: Take your time and don’t rush things; it’s important to recognise that growth and improvement often requires patience and dedication. If you find that you’re not quite ready, keep practicing and honing your skills until you feel fully prepared to take on the challenge. However, remember not to underestimate yourself or your potential, as everyone has unique strengths that can lead to success. If you are truly passionate about what you do, you will always find a way to overcome obstacles and achieve your goals. Embrace your passion wholeheartedly, and you will, undoubtedly, soar to new heights in your endeavours.

LMAP: Where can people follow you?
Ricky: My social media platform isn’t solely focused on fitness; I like to mix things up a bit! I mostly share dad jokes and adorable moments with my pets – I absolutely love my iguanas! In addition to them, I’ve also had goldfish and an arowana, which have all brought joy to my life. I also enjoy using fun filters on people's faces just for laughs – that's always entertaining!
